Doing a Tag in the Train :)

It's almost midnight, just left a friends engagement party, it's a long way till I get home and I thought I'd do the Spring tag I saw on Rebecca's blog: http://whatrebeccasaid.blogspot.com. By the way, check out her blog, she's adorable :)

1. You're going to the beach: skirt, shorts, or romper?

Old jeans that I've turned into shorts :)

2. What would you prefer: ice cream, frozen yogurt, or shake?

Ice cream. By the way, I just found out that in Tokyo, on the 31st of every month, When you buy a two scoop sundae at Baskin Robbins, 31 flavors will offers a free third scoop. Guess who'll be marking the 31st day of every month her calender :D

3. You're on vacation and can only bring one thing, what would it be?

Sunglasses, I can't be without them.

4. It's a typical day at the park, and you're starving, what do you bring in your basket?

Sandwiches, some kind of drink and granola bars for my sugar fix.

5. Inside or outside?

If it's not too hot...outside.

6. What's your favorite soft drink for spring time?

7up, lemonade, or ginger ale (all year round).

7. What's the first thing that comes to you when you think of spring time?

Cherry blossoms.

8. What's your favorite thing to do in the spring time?

Go to cherry blossom festivals :)

9. Name a nail polish that shouts spring?

So difficult!! probably Chanel's Nouvelle Vague and Essie's Carousel Coral (post's coming soon).

10. Are you a spring baby?

No, Fall.

11. It's about 80 degrees out and you're bored out of your mind, where would you go?

Well, since I loath the heat, I'll be heading to some kind of air conditioned sanctuary like Isetan or Mitsukoshi.

12. What's your favorite season?

Spring, Fall, and Winter.

If anyone of you would like to do this tag, please feel free to do so and send me the post :) I'd love to read your responses.

Le Metier De Beaute's True Romance

Today's mani is Le Metier De Beaute's nail lacquer in True Romance.

True Romance is one of four polishes from Nordstrom's exclusive Le Metier De Beaute 'Rock n' Romance Mini Nail Lacquer Set($25) released last year. I checked nordstrom.com and it's still available :)

With flash.

True Romance is a metallic taupey pale rosy nude . This is such a pretty color that subtly catches your attention. A lovely polish to help your nails transition into Spring.

What polish have you been loving this week?

Read My Lips: TheBalm Lipstick Swatches

Hey you!

Don't you hate it when you want to write a post, but your mind draws a blank and you don't know how to start it?? Well, I guess we can consider the previous sentence as the intro, and just move on, since this post won't be favorable to the product.

Now, first let me say that I really adore TheBalm cosmetics, but there lipsticks leave much to be desired!

TheBalm's Read My Lips Retail for $17.00 (4g/.14 oz).

Letter to the editor, Wanted, Smut, Scoop, Gossip, Classified.

I love the paper packaging of these lipsticks. The paper (eco-friendly :D) is made to look like vintage newspaper prints, very eye catching and appealing.  Reminds me of the newspaper wall at Subway (the restaurant).

from left to right: Classified, Gossip, Scoop (shot indoors on an overcast day).

from left to right: Classified, Gossip, Scoop (with flash).

Classified: A pinky beige nude.

Gossip: A bubble gum pink with silver shimmer.

Scoop: A coral pink.

From left to right: Wanted, Letter to the editor, Smut (shot indoors on an overcast day).

From left to right: Wanted, Letter to the editor, Smut (with flash).

Wanted: A strawberry pink red.

Letter to editor: A reddened berry with bronze shimmer.

Smut: A plum berry with silver shimmer.

The texture of these lipsticks feels more like a waxy lip balm than a lipstick. The pigmentation goes on sheer yet shiny. Now the smell...they have this chemically vanilla mint scent. Basically they smell just like a dentist's office...no, I'm serious, they do!! Not a scent I want to have on my lips! Mint is an ingredient in these lipsticks, so during application there is a slight tingle on the lips. Not a lip plumper "I'm in pain tingle" but a cool minty tingle, but this sensation is temporary. After an hour and a half of wear, the only trace of these lipsticks was left in my lip lines, not an attractive look.

When I bought these lipsticks, I really wanted to love them, but I have to say that they're a big FAIL! Read My Lips lipsticks are nowhere near as superb in quality, texture and performance as other products from TheBalm. I guess Read My Lips is TheBalms one hiccup product and for $17.00, I'm going to need a tall glass of water!

What is the worst lip product you've ever tried?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates

Hi lovelies,

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a 100% vegan and cruelty free cosmetic line. This brand is best known for their ultra-saturated and extremely pigmented products (i.e. Lip Tars and Loose Colour Concentrates).

These Loose Colour Concentrate pigments can be used on the eyes, lips, cheeks, nails, face, body, and hair. Basically anywhere and everywhere :)

Here are some swatches of the six OCC Loose Colour Concentrates I own.

From left to right: Twirl (yes, it's there), Platonic, Clove. Since Twirl was proving to be the bane of my existence in this picture, I swatched and took photos of it separately.

Twirl: A pale peach with a pink duo-chrome. When used wet, the pink duo-chrome is more pronounced.

Platonic: A pale icy pink shimmer.

Clove: A pale orange champagne.

Twirl (indoors).

Twirl (with Flash)

Twirl (wet), here you can see more of the pink duo-chrome.

Smote: A taupey reddened copper, but not a taupe!

Slag: A red based yellow gold with a green duo-chrome.

Lafayette: A grey based murky moss green with a gold duo-chrome.

Regrettably, due to allergies, my eyes (and the skin around them) have been left a bit raw. So, I'm not able to do a look featuring these shadows  :(  but I will do a look with these products later this week  :)

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates retail for $12.00(2.5g) and can be purchased at occmakeup.com. OCC offers international shipping, but the fees are a bit steep. I would wait for one of their website sales to balance out the fees.

Are you OC for the OCC?

Tagged: I'm It!

So I was tagged by the lovely Jana Katrina from My Vogue Obsession at myvogueobsession.blogspot.com, Please check her out :)

I really enjoy doing and read these tags no matter how random the questions are, since they're a great way to get to know more about another.

The questions:

1. What is your original hair colour?

A reddish dark brown, but I haven't seen my natural color since I was 15.

2. Why did you start blogging?

Several of my Friends, family members and former clients suggested that I start a beauty blog. They were always emailing me or scheduling Skype dates whenever they need beauty advise, questions on a product or help with a look for an event.  I'm really enjoying this creative outlet, as well as, being able to make friends with people who have the same obsessions as myself.

3. What is your favourite season?

Fall, winter and spring. but mainly Fall. Sorry but I just hate summer, especially in Tokyo! Apartments here don't have central a/c units, so, my apartment basically turns into an oven during Summer. Also, it's so humid, that by the time I get to my station, I'm drenched in sweat...not fun :(

4. If you could only shop in one place forever where would that be?

Probably the states. Everything is SOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive here and at times, the quality isn't that great. Don't get me wrong, I still do plenty of retail damage here :O

 5. What is your opinion about hair extensions?

Go for it! As long as it's done properly. I once had to get extensions after a horrible hair cut. Thank god my hair grows very fast.

6. What is your favourite quote about fashion or beauty?

I don't have one favorite quote, but here a few that I like:

"There is a kind of beauty in imperfection".
Conrad Hall

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening".
Coco Chanel
"Perfection is boring. If a face doesn't have mistakes, it's nothing".
Kevyn Aucoin

7. What is your favourite Ice Cream flavor?

pralines n'cream, pistachio, black seasame and popping shower.

8. Are you a cat or a dog person?

Dog person, but I have a cat named Sid Vicious that I left with my parents back in Miami. Love you Sid!!!

9. What is your favourite movie?

Oh Jesus, I can't answer this one. I love movies and I have way to many to pick just one. Here are a few:

The Red Shoes, Peeping Tom, Black Narcissus (funny enough, all directed by Michael Powell), Inception, Edward scissorhands, Hero, Oldboy, A tale of two sisters, Sweeney Todd, 2046, Coraline and the list goes on and on...

10. Lipstick or lipgloss?

Lipstick, but own a crap load of lipglosses.

11. At the moment what is on your wishlist?

More Inglot eyeshadows, more Rouge Bunny Rouge  and the two new Helena Rubinstien eyeshadow palettes, but just as Jana stated in her post, my list is also neverending :)

Now, I'm suppose to tag 11 people to do this tag, but why limit myself to just 11. Just like the other tag, I tag all of you to do this. Looking forward to reading all your responses :D

I leave you with some photos of two of my favorite building in Shinjuku.

Curse that truck for getting in my shot >:)

TheBalm Shady Lady Vol.1: swatches, look and My PJ Shirt :P

Hey all,

So before I start counting sheep, I wanted to do a long overdue post on the TheBalm Shady Lady Vol.1 Palette. I know this palette has been discontinued for some time now, but you can still find it online through ebay, and other vendors like hautelook.com.

I consider TheBalm to be an indie makeup brand that holds it's own along side its herculean cosmetic counterparts. TheBalm is slightly similar to Benefit Cosmetics, in that, both companies have made a niche for themselves in the beauty world through their unique packaging and tongue n' cheek product names. In addition to adorable vintage inspired packaging and cheeky names, this brand's products deliver beautiful pigmentation, outstanding performance and high end quality.

Don't you just love the eye shadow names :)

From left to right: Caught in the act Courtney, Shameless Shana, Luscious Lani.

Caught in the act Courtney: A matte rich dark brown with tiny gold flecks.

Shameless Shana: A shimmery tan copper.

Luscious Lani: A light shimmery pink champagne.

From left to right: Jealous Jordana, Risque Renee, Curvy Cami.

Jealous Jordana: A shimmery muted dark emerald green with green flecks.

Risque Renee: A dark matte navy blue with blue flecks.

Curvy Cami: A shimmery muted plum with gold fleck and a gold sheen.

From left to right: Jet-setting Jennifer, All about Alex, Easy Wheezie.

Jet-setting Jennifer: A light shimmery cream champagne gold.

All about Alex: A khaki grayed olive shimmer.

Easy Wheezie: A shimmer muted gunmetal grey with a purplish blue undertone.

Today's look was created by using the TheBalm Shady Lady Vol.1 Palette :)

This is a very simple casual look, nothing too dramatic today.

These eye shadows really hold up. I've had this makeup on for about 11 hours without retouching the eyes.

Sorry for the blur, but it's past midnight.

Changed into a t-shirt and getting ready for bed.
Products used:
Face:
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Santa Fe (Medium 2).
Shu Uemura Hard Formula brow Pencil in Seal Brown.
Inglot Face Blush in #32
TheBalm eyeshadow in Jet-setting Jennifer as a highlight along the cheek bones and nose.
Eyes:
Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer in NW25.
Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.
All about Alex on the lid.
Easy Wheezie in the crease and lower lash line.
Jet-setting Jennifer on the brow bone and inner corner.
Mac Opulash mascara
Laura Mercier Full blown Volume Mascara on the bottom lashes.
Lips:
Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Raspberry.

I simply adore TheBalm's eye shadows and blushes. This is a brand that deserves much more attention then it receives. I'll be posting more of my TheBalm products, so please keep an eye out for future posts :)

My First Tag!! FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I was happy to find that I was tagged by Yy's from 'Life Through A Number of Lenses'. Yy's a big Photography and Hello Kitty fan, two things I'm also fond of  :)  Please visit her at: http://lifethroughanumberoflenses.blogspot.co.uk/.

Now onto the tag questions!

1. What made you start blogging?

Several of my Friends, family members and former clients suggested that I start a beauty blog. They were always emailing me or scheduling Skype dates whenever they need beauty advise, questions on a product or help with a look for an event.  I'm really enjoying this creative outlet, as well as, being able to make friends with people who have the same obsessions as myself.

2. If you could be a superhero, who would you be?

Psylocke or death...oh I can't decide :P

3. What is your guilty pleasure?

The Spice Girls! Zigazig ah!

4. If you could live elsewhere in the world, where would it be?

I'd choose either Hungary or Austria.

5. What is the most expensive thing you have brought this year?

A ticket to Denmark.

6. Who is your favorite celebrity?

I don't have a favorite celebrity per se but here are some of my favorite actors (living that is):

Sean Bean (god, I love this man, fancy him a bit sexy :P), Ji-tae Yu (I'm so obsessed with this man), Takeshi Kaneshiro (the gods took their time to make this one!!) Joaquin Phoenix, Ewan McGregor, Cillian Murphy, Rachel Weisz, Gong Li, Natalie Portman, Eva Green, okay, I need to stop myself :)

7. If you won the lottery, what would be your first purchase?

Tickets to fly my loved ones to where ever the hell I am.

8. What is your nickname?

Friends and family call me Liz or Lizzy.
Aki calls me: NHB, Osa, Bear, Liziness, Oyomesan, BeBe (both B's are capitalized).

9. What 3 words best describes you?

I didn't know how to answer this one...so I asked two of my closet friends (you know who you are) and this is what they said: friend #1 sexy, crazy, amazing.  friend #2 adventurous, creative, eccentric.

10. What is the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?

First thing that comes to mind was when Aki surprised me on white day and gave me the same model guitar as my favorite musician. That was an awesome personal and well thought out gift!!

11. Finally, as my blog is about photos, what is your favourite picture.

Unfortunately, I lost most of my photos when my previous laptop died. My backup are in the states...I know, great place to have them :D but here are a few.

My trip to Ulsan's (South Korea) seaside.

 Still Ulsan :)

Not the best angle, but I'm glad I was able to see Namdaemun before it was burned down by that maniac.

My little piece of love Vigo!!! R.I.P Vigo, see you at the rainbow bridge. By the way, that's not my hand, I'm not that hairy.

Our beach vacation in Chiba.

Whiskey - $50, Giants Game tickets - $40, Cigarettes - $5... passing out while everyone are still drinking - priceless :)

So now that I've done this tag, There is no point in me listing every single one of you, because I tag everyone!

my questions:

1. How did you come up with your blog's name?
2. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
3. What's your favorite physical feature?

11. What's your all time favorite thing to wear (i.e. clothing. makeup, nail polish, shoes, perfume...etc)?
Bonus question:  A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi?

Looking forward to reading your responses :)

An Introduction to Propaganda: Illamasqua Nail Varnish

What I'm wearing on my nails today is Illamasqua's Propaganda.

 With flash.

Propaganda is a dark ink blue jelly finish polish.

Indoors

I love this polish, but it can be a labor of love. It takes about three coats for opacity, and if you're not careful in your application, you will get bald spots.

Natural light

Although Propaganda can be a bit tricky when applying. The final result is a gorgeous glossy dark (almost black) ink blue. I didn't apply a top coat because I wanted to show just how glossy this polish is, so pretty :)

Propaganda retails for £13.50 (15ml/0.5 fl.oz) and is available at illamasqua.com.
