Smoke On The Polish...Addiction Deep Purple Nail Polish

Total fail on the photo of the bottle above. I just couldn't capture the magical shade in this bottle.

Wowzers! It's been over a year since I posted an actual Addiction product on the blog...Shame on me!

Addiction's nail polishes are some of my favorite lacquers on the market. The colors are gorgeous, they wear extremely well, and they are INSANELY glossy.

Deep Purple 040 is a jaw-dropping, royal purple with amethyst and violet micro-shimmer, and equally stunning iridescent flashes of violet-pink and russet-orange-cooper. Golly (bringing that word back), such a remarkably beautiful shade; how can you not fall in love with it?! And, can you see how absurdly shiny Deep Purple is? I'm not even wearing a top coat, and my nails have this "buffed and waxed showroom car" shine. Deep Purple is so shiny that my camera was having a hard time focusing.

Without a doubt, Deep Purple is one of my favorite shades in my entire collection.

Pinwheel, pinwheel spinning around...Guerlain Poudre De Soie Illuminating Powder Silk Shimmer

I have a affinity for a number of things, and pinwheels are a definite fascination; they remind me of my youthful Summers in Chicago as well as one of my favorite childhood tv shows of the same name (and if you watched Pinwheel, you're awesome!). Moreover, I'm enamored by their imagery and symbolism in Japanese anime and art. Pinwheels evoke a flurry of emotions of being charmingly delicate and jubilantly whimsical, and yet, they conjure up this sorrowful, melancholic, haunting adolescent beauty; but hey, that's just how my skewed mind works.

So, I just about rocketed off the sofa when I saw the piece de resistance from Guerlain's Blanc de Perle Spring 2015 Collection, the Poudre De Soie Illuminating Powder Silk Shimmer on Isetan's online store; a visual masterpiece of a illuminating powder, this was one highlighter I just couldn't refuse!

I found the choice of packaging odd and unfitting of the artistry of the enclosed product. The semi-pearled, extremely pale ballet-pink, plastic casing feels a little cheap, and lacks weight. It reminds me of Mary Kay packaging from the 1970's.

Let's take a moment to admire the heart-stirring work of art that is the Poudre De Soie Illuminating Powder Silk Shimmer.

The only plus side to the packaging is the case's childproof-fashioned, twist off lid and base grooved-ring, locking mechanism. The mechanism's snapping sound secures your investment from any unwanted topless incidents.

Guerlain's Poudre De Soie Illuminating Powder Silk Shimmer has an intricate, Japanese-inspired origami pinwheel center, with a traditional Seigaiha-patterned background...extraordinary, isn't it!

Poudre De Soie is a peachy-rose gold with microscopic shimmer. The color is fairly neutral and would be flattering on most skin tones. Befitting it's name, the silk shimmer has a finely-milled, silky smooth texture that melds magically onto the skin. The finish is not frosty nor shiny, but has this wonderful iridescent, luminous glow. I've used this illuminating powder dusted all over my face and as a highlighter, and I'm smitten with both results; just make sure to use a soft fluffy brush or a fan brush when applying all over the face. Finally, the Poudre De Soie is unscented, which saddened me, because I love Guerlain's trademark violet-scent.

Guerlain's Poudre De Soie Illuminating Powder Silk Shimmer Contains 10g / 0.35 oz and retailed for 8,424 yen. I don't remember if this was released outside of Asia, but if not, hopefully it will make its way to your shores one day.

Extra Pinwheels pictures below.

Aki and I circa 2009. I made the pinwheel in the photo above. Also, I'm not sure if you can tell, but my hair is an eggplant purple; may go back to that color in Fall.

I took this photo last Tuesday when I was in Harajuku. I believe this is the Tommy Hilfiger store; I parked in front of it, for some time, just watching the three larger pinwheels in the center move. It didn't cross my mind to take a video of the window display until I was on the train home...d'oh!

I own about 50 (to lazy to get off my sofa to check) Butter London nail lacquers, but that doesn't stop me from buying more!

Has anyone tried the Patent Shine 10x Nail Lacquers? I don't own any, and I'm thinking of picking a few up, but would like to know your two cents on them.

Let It Shine...Tom Ford Beauty Spring 2015 Asia Exclusive Lip Color Shine Swatches

This Spring, Tom Ford Beauty released four, limited edition, Asia exclusive Lip Color Shine Lipsticks: 11 Frivolous, 12 Sultry, 13 Lust, and 14 Unabashed (although, I do believe Lust and Sultry are available in the states).

From left to right: 11 Frivolous, 12 Sultry, 13 Lust, 14 Unabashed.

From left to right: 11 Frivolous, 12 Sultry, 13 Lust, 14 Unabashed.

11 Frivolous: a warm, English rose-pink.

12 Sultry: a warm, corally-apricot.

13 Lust: a warm, rosy-red.

14 Unabashed: a neutral, raspberry-pink.

I own several of the lip color shines, and I thoroughly enjoy their luscious, semi-transparent color, rich, balmy-cream formula, and juicy, glass-like finish. Like the other lip color shines I own, these four new shades are attractively comfortable and inject the pout with a generous amount of hydration.

Tom Ford Lip Color Shine Lipsticks retail for 6,480 yen.

God Is In The Details...Dior.Com Order

"Each time I see a little girl
I can't resist a joyous urge
To smile and say
Thank heaven for little girls
For little girls get
Bigger every day..."

Whether it's patrolling the beauty counters, swatching products, purchasing pretty-pretties, or getting a cornucopia of cosmetics in the mail, Maurice Chevalier's Thank heaven for little girls (Frenchman voice included) always plays in my head...one of my many internal shopping soundtracks.

I'm a pushover for attention-to-detail, and dior.com always satisfies with the meticulous care they put into the packaging of their online orders; it's the perfect "merchandising cherry" to complete the entire cosmetics purchasing experience.

Don't you love it when brands personalize their shipping boxes?! Also, Dior is being a makeup tease with this box within a box packaging.

The box has the same textured surface as the Dior shopping bags.

Another charming detail is the attached lid has a magnetized closure.

Receipt enclosed in a discreet envelop. No need for Aki to know how much we spend.

Dior logo tissue paper and sticker.

Samples.

And the cream-filling of this proverbial cosmetics doughnut: the limited edition 5 couleurs couture eyeshadow palette in 686 Tangerine Dream, and Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara in 982 It-Violet.

Do you enjoy it when brands put that extra effort into packaging?

How Do You Like Them Apples! Tasty Related, Not Beauty Related

For someone who NEVER drank Fanta when they lived in the states, I surely drink enough of it living in Japan.

There are three new flavors floating around, and first up is Fanta Apple. Fanta Apple taste just like apple juice with a carbonated punch. I feared this soda would be excessively sweet with a fake, chemically-artificial- cancer-inducing type of flavor, but it's not; Fanta Apple is actually very tasty and refreshing.

Here's a compilation of some kooky Japanese Fanta commercials, enjoy!

Is Fanta Apple available in your neck of the woods?

Come Come Kitty Kitty...Benico x Hello Kitty Petit Macaron Can Cheeks

A few months ago, when I did the Make-up Addict tag, Monika brought the blush tag to my attention. Since I'm all about blush, this would be a fun (yet tough to narrow down) tag to do (but, it's coming). While going over my blushers, and then checking the blog, I saw I hadn't posted the Benico x Hello Kitty Petit Macaron Can Cheeks.

I've had these adorable tin pot blushers for years, and for some reason, I though they were limited edition. However, I still see them around...so, I guess not.

The Benico x Hello Kitty Petit Macaron Can Cheeks come in four shades: PM01, PM02, PM03, PM04. And, I love the cute floral pattern lids and their coordinated solid-color bottom.

Each Can Cheek has a white puff applicator with a bow accent in the same color as the solid tin bottom.

From left to right: PM01, PM02, PM03, PM04.

PM01: a coral-pink.

PM02: a coral-orange with a slight golden sheen.

PM03: a hot pink.

PM04: a mamey-pink with golden shimmer.

These petit blushes pack a pigmented punch! All four shades are extremely pigmented, vibrant (yet subtle when applied with a light hand), and have a beautiful satin sheen. For an inexpensive blush, their quality isn't lacking. The Can Cheeks go on smoothly, evenly, and wear for about four to five hours of wear, before needing a touch-up.

The Benico x Hello Kitty Petit Macaron Can Cheeks used to retail for 999 yen, but with the tax increase, they are now 1,080 yen.

And The Shower Was All Violets...Les Merveilleuses Laduree Liquid Body Soap

This May, I'm in shower-time bliss with Les Merveilleuses Laduree Limited Edition Violet Liquid Body Soap.

Given my infatuation of all things violet, it was a no-brainer when Les Merveilleuses Laduree released their Liquid Body Soap that I would choose the violet scent. The Liquid Body Soap comes in four fragrances: Rose (permanent), Violet (limited edition, need to stock up on this), Orange Flower (limited edition, and next on my list), and Roudoudou (limited edition, and also on the list).

I love seeing the bottle in my shower, as well as holding it. The Bottle's shape, curves and embossed details make me feel dainty, and self-indulgent...wonder if Aki feels the same way?

Laduree's Violet Liquid Body Soap has a milky-pearlized color with an ever-so- slight violet sheen, that lathers into a rich, velvety foam. The violet fragrance is absolutely amazing, it feels sinful to wash it off. The violet bouquet doesn't linger outside of the shower, but that doesn't bother me since I don't rely on my body washes to act as a perfume.

I've only been using the liquid soap for six days now, and so far, my skin feels clean and soft, and not dry or tight.

Les Merveilleuses Laduree Liquid Body Soap retails for 2,376 yen and contains 230ml / 7.7 fl.oz.

Snow Falling On Strawberries...Suqqu EX-22 Yukiichigo

Last year, as I was fiddling with the holiday sets, I felt they were more inspiring for Spring; and since the weather has been grey and rainy, even more fitting.

Keeping with the sparkling, galactic-glitter packaging of the 2013 holiday palettes, 2014's cases were white with flashes of iridescent candy pink, hot pink, lilac, and gold glitter.

The bags included with these sets are usually a waste of material, but, this time around, they are not that bad; I'll probably use them to store single eyeshadows or blushers.

The set came with a compact of the EX-13 Beniaka lipstick (released with Suqqu Fall 2013). I already own the tube form of EX-13 Beniaka, and, as much as I love it, I was disappointed that a new shade wasn't offered in the set. Also included were Suqqu's Reset Cleansing Cream (makeup remover) and Refining Foam (cleanser). I do like both of these products, but since they were included in the 2013 sets, I wish the brand would have offered two other forms of skincare...maybe a make and moisturizer?

Suqqu's EX-22 Yukiichigo palette is positively a jaw-dropping beaut!

 EX-22 Yukiichigo swatches.

A pale lavender satin with pink, blue, and lilac microshimmer.

A soft, warm pink satin with peachy-gold microshimmer.

A brown based-plummy-burgundy cream with golden-olive-bronze glitter.

A pale, white-pink satin.

Without a doubt, the little rock star of this palette is that gorgeous cream shadow, and when paired with the other lovely shadows, EX-22 Yukiichigo is an absolute eyeful.
